The project of a lifetime.

Preserving a 17th Century Home

Constructed in 1696, the Valentine Whitman House has only undergone two major renovations in its 300-year-old lifespan in 1820 and 1950, thus leaving many original architectural details intact. The 2022 rehabilitation project included extensive repairs and the installation of modern features, while preserving the historic, 17th century character.

Preserve Rhode Island, the state-wide nonprofit committed to preserving Rhode Island’s historic places for future generations, planned and financed the extensive project with Heritage Restoration with the intent of returning the property into a private residence.  A historic easement was applied to the property by Preserve RI to protect the architectural integrity of the house permanently.

Hewritagehe Valentine Whitman Restoration Project was completed in late 2022. We partnered with Oyster Farm Productions to film the entire process to create a full-length documentary, adding short videos on Heritage Restoration's YouTube page, hopefully leading to a final feature film.
