Finish Specialist

Basic Function

Working under the direction of the Window and Door Shop Manager. Tasks may include in shop and onsite work, inside and outside, on the ground or on a ladder or scaffolding. Tasks can include, but not limited to finishes preparation including scraping, stripping and sanding, as well as the application of oil and latex based finishes. Finishes can be simple coatings or more intricate color or texture matching.

Responsibilities

  • Window Restoration

    • Safely and efficiently perform restoration practices, including scraping, sanding, steaming, heating, glass cutting, epoxy repairs, glazing, and painting

    • Maintain safe, clean, and organized job site

    • Follow safe work practices and adhere to Heritage Restoration, Inc. policies at all times

    • Maintain personal log of daily work and review employees’

    • Safely operate machinery including drill, electric sander, chop saw and a variety of hand tools

  • Wood Finishes

    • Restore or complete new wood finishes (stain, tung oil, etc.) on a variety of surfaces including floors, counters, paneling, furniture both on site and in shop

    • Manipulate stains to color match existing wood finishes

    • Manipulate wood dyes to change colors of wood finishes

  • On Site Painting

    • Restore or finish new painting on exterior or interior surface at clients’ homes as assigned

    • Follow all HRI and other regulations while completing work

  • Follow safety manuals, OSHA regulations and safe work practices

  • Read and understand Heritage Restoration, Inc. policies and procedures included in the Employee Handbook

  • Real, understand and follow Respiratory Protective Program, including proper fit, cleaning, inspection and operation.  Maintain copies in your handbook

  • Read, understand and follow Workplace Lead Compliance Program.  Maintain copies in your handbook

Requirements

  • Prior interior and exterior painting experience preferred, especially in a fine finish environment

  • Ability to use hands and hand tools, stand for 8 hours at a time, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to work on ladders, staging, and scaffolding

  • High School diploma or GED certificate

  • Be able to work 40 hours a week Monday through Friday

  • Flexibility to work independently and in team settings

  • Strong attention to detail

  • English language reading, writing, and speaking skills

  • Be comfortable working with chemicals

  • Any experience with art making or handling, historic preservation or conservation treatments is advantageous but not a requirement

  • Agreeable to working in a dog friendly office

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

  • Ability to multi-task and establish priorities

Background Check

Heritage Restoration has partnered with Checkr to conduct national pre-employment background screening for all new hires. New employees will receive an e-mail instructing them to sign in and provide pertinent information in order for Checkr to conduct a national background check. (The sign-on and password information will be provided in the e-mail.) Once the new employee has signed on and provided the required information, Checkr will complete the background investigation and report back to Heritage Restoration.  Employment is not final until HRI receives and approves a review of the background check.

Compensation

  • $22-32.00 per hour based on experience
